Why I Started This …

Why start a blog (of all things) in 2023?

I wanted a spot online where I could jot down my ideas about self-care, food, nature, and lifestyle. While I love Instagram and TikTok, a lot of what is wise to post on these apps is governed by trends, algorithms, and what your followers expect. It’s very tail-wags-the-dog if you want any eyeballs on your posts.

A blog gives me a chance to post longer format POV’s and more photos.

Over time I have evolved my focus towards food, local food sources (aka farming) and culinary travel.

So What’s Your Background?

I started life in the San Francisco Bay Area, and migrated to the East Coast nearly two decades ago. As a result I have a good understanding of coastal culture and what makes these very distinct populations tick.

I grew up on a small horse farm in California, as a result I’ve had a lifelong love of animals. I couldn’t imagine life without the furry and feathered babies that keep me company every day.

I majored in English in college and have a true book hoarding problem. I also love to write, which is another reason to start a blog - right?

How Does Food Fit In?

If there’s one thing about Northern California, it’s one of the most food obsessed areas in the World.

From the age of 15 and continuing into my 30’s I worked in restaurants throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and Wine Country. Food culture is so ingrained in the area that it was natural that it would follow me to the East Coast.

Here in Connecticut and throughout the region, food focus is less about fusions and more about growing and sourcing ingredients. There are farms of all types and sizes in this region - from hobby farms to larger operations. There are farmers markets, farm stands, farm days, farming lectures - you get it, there’s a lot of enthusiasm for growing and cultivating crafty food here.
