Culinary Cozy Drama: Recipes for Love and Murder on Acorn TV

I’m sorry to confess I’m not really sure what you call Foodie Dramas - particularly Foodie Dramas that are mixed with Cozy Crime … I have a feeling they are called Culinary Cozy Crime (CCC’s for short?)

If you’re a fan of the genre you’ll have to tune into Acorn TV’s Recipes for Love and Murder - a particularly compelling series (now in 2 seasons).

Recipes for Love and Murder is a captivating series that blends mystery with culinary artistry. Set against the backdrop of a charming fictional South African town called Eden, the story follows the life of Tannie Marie (played by Maria Doyle Kennedy), an amateur sleuth and a passionate cook. As she navigates her way through the complexities of relationships and community dynamics, she finds herself entangled in a series of murders that rock the small town.

Each episode presents a new culinary challenge that mirrors the unfolding investigation, as Tannie Marie uses her cooking skills not only to bring the community together but also to unravel clues linked to the crimes. The vibrant character palette, along with lush food visuals, keeps viewers engaged while exploring themes of love, betrayal, and the power of home-cooked meals. With a perfect mix of intrigue and heartwarming moments, Recipes for Love and Murder serves a delightful dish of suspense and charm.

Each cooking scene features an intriguing recipe (many times something we wouldn’t eat here in the United States, such as Ostrich or Kudu (an antelope native to South Africa).

If you love baking there are cakes and cookies that you’ll find pretty irresistible, like the Buttermilk Chocolate Cake or Vegan Chocolate Cake. You can find the recipes from the show on their Facebook page listed under videos (keep scrolling to the bottom).

And while the culinary sequences and the problem solving dishes that Tannie Marie turns out are tantalizing, the real intrigue lies in the steamy romance between Tannie Marie and the town’s lead detective Khaya Meyer (played by Tony Kgoroge). There’s plenty of drama at other households around the town of Eden as well to keep you enthralled throughout both Season 1 and Season 2.

You’ll also be charmed to find that Tannie Marie’s best friend is a sweet little hen named Morag (a Scottish name meaning great).

I subscribe to Acorn TV on Amazon Prime.
